What exactly is the Digital Nomad Visa?
The Digital Nomad Visa is designed for foreign nationals who wish to live in Colombia while working remotely for a foreign company, or for those who are entrepreneurs with a business based outside of Colombia. It allows you to legally reside in the country for up to two years.
What are the main document requirements?
While each case is unique, the core requirements generally include:
- A valid passport with at least six months of validity remaining.
- A passport-style digital photo.
- A letter from your foreign employer detailing your role and income, or documents proving ownership of your company if you are an entrepreneur.
- Bank statements from the last 3 months showing a minimum monthly income (we will confirm the current amount with you).
- Valid health insurance with coverage in Colombia.
What are the costs involved?
Our pricing is transparent. Costs are broken down into our legal service fee and the official government fees. (Note: Government fees are subject to change).
- Immigration Lawyer: $450.00 USD Paid at the beginning to start the process.
- Visa Study (Estudio de visa): $54.00 USD Paid to the government upon application submission.
- Visa Issuance (Expedición de visa): $270.00 USD Paid to the government only after your visa is approved.
- National ID (Cédula de Extranjería): Approx. $70.00 USD Paid in Colombia after you arrive with your new visa.
Does this visa lead to permanent residency?
No, this is a key point. The Digital Nomad Visa (V-Type) is designed for temporary stays and does not accumulate time toward a Permanent Resident (R-Type) visa. It's perfect for experiencing life in Colombia for up to two years.
Can I work for a Colombian company with this visa?
No. The visa strictly requires that your work and income come from a company or clients located outside of Colombia. Earning income from a Colombian source is not permitted under this visa category.
What is the "Cédula de Extranjería" and is it mandatory?
Yes. Once your visa is approved, you must register it and obtain a Cédula de Extranjería (Foreigner's ID). This is your official identification in Colombia. The process requires booking an appointment with Migración Colombia, which can be challenging. We guide you through this entire process.
